Rapper Emtee joins Muvhango

The 23-year-old, who started shooting his scenes two weeks ago, will make his on-screen debut as Malusi in the SABC2 soapie Muvhango in June.

“Acting has always been something I wanted to pursue. To be honest, I was never trained in it, but I’m prepared to learn as I go along. It’s a huge deal for me,” he said.

“I don’t have a higher education background. I went as far as matric, but I fell in love with acting at a young age. I want to explore it to make a living and support my mom and family.”

Speaking of his character, Emtee (real name Mthembeni Ndevu) said he played a young business studies graduate.

“He basically has a couple of his friends around him, including Vusi Mukwevho (played by Raphael Griffiths), a buddy from his school days,” said Emtee.

“Melusi is cool, very humble and down to earth, but is, unfortunately, a repenting criminal because while at school, he used to get on the wrong side of the law.

“His family was also not supportive of Melusi, neglecting him as a youngster, which landed him with ‘uncool’ friends.”

On a personal level, Emtee’s star is shining brighter. He’s shooting a doccie about his life in between being on the Muvhango set.

But the rapper was uncertain about when the doccie would be completed, released or where it would be shown.

He is also launching a clothing line.

“That, we still gonna work out. Great things are in the pipeline. I believe the awards are just the beginning,” said Emtee. “I will be doing more international collaborations and, maybe, other acting jobs will come by. I would love to be a TV presenter as well.”
