A former bartender at the popular cocktail bar and restaurant, News Cafe, has claimed he was “forced” to replace expensive drinks ordered by customers with cheaper makes and was fired as a result.
Tshepo Kekana, wrote an email to Xolani Gwala, a radio presenter at Talk Radio 702 saying News Cafe fired him after he refused to fill up a bottle of Skyy Vodka with Russian Bear which is a cheaper option.
This has been happening for years. I kept quiet for five months. Said Tshepo Kekana, former News Cafe bartender.
After reading Kekana’s email on air, Xolani Gwala received several calls and messages accusing News Cafe of serving the wrong drinks…
“I have sent back a couple of drinks back at News Cafe, especially wine where you can taste the difference.” Said Abigail by SMS.
However, operations executive at Fournews Developments, holding company for News Cafe, Ryan Pellat, says Kekane was a disgruntled employee who was dismissed for frequent late coming.
