Mpumalanga councillor says his mother keeps a giant baboon in the house

GOGO Sophie Maluleke should be proud of her son, who is a councillor.

However, she claims he wants the community to attack and kill her!

The 53-year-old from Naas, near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga, said her son, Veli Mabuza, had been abusing her physically and emotionally for 10 years.

“He started abusing me when he was a teenager, telling me he hated me for giving birth to him by Caesarean section,” she said.

Sophie claimed her son stopped her in the street to spit at her and told people she kept a giant baboon in her house.

“He told me he was going to spread these lies about me so the community would burn me in my house.

“Even though I have reported him to his bosses, I don’t get any support from them,” she alleged.

“One day after he assaulted me, I ran to Naas Police Station for help but the cops told me to go home and act like a mother.”

Sophie’s daughter, Thoko Mabuza claimed her brother forced her out of her RDP in 2004 and took all her furniture.

Councillor Mabuza said he couldn’t comment on the matter because it was a sensitive issue.

“I think God has sent you guys to solve our problems. I have tried to speak to our family elders about the matter without success.

“I cannot say anything more over the phone. We must meet face to face,” he said.

However, he failed to answer phone calls to set up the meeting.

Ronnie Masilela from the social development department advised Sophie to visit their offices in Naas so she could get help.

Mpumalanga police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said if Sophie was not helped at the cop shop, she should ask to see the station commander.
